By: Samar El-Morally 8/2/2017

Shoes, shoes and more shoes, please. We can never have too many shoes. Think of all the countless times you were running in the shopping mall, looking for a 5 cm heels and you had to wear your old plain one because you can never find the shoes you need in time. Or that event, when you needed that shade of royal blue heels and ended up wearing an odd shade of blue instead? We’ve all been there, because it’s just not available. No matter how many stores exist, we always have a specific shoe design in our minds that we want to become real.
Don’t frown, we’re full of hope again as we stumbled upon May Eliwa in The Cairo Wedding Festival event and we were pleased when we saw the Bridal shoes booth. May Eliwa, the young talented designer, started what we lacked shoes in Egypt and in the Middle East in general. Bridal shoes promises to make your dream shoes come true as Eliwa said: “Our shoes are classy and unique”. Eliwa started back in 2014, when she couldn’t find the right shoes for her engagement, the idea started to grow and she took online courses for shoe design, searched for the proper materials to use and by the time of her wedding, she designed her first shoes, which took her 3 weeks. Her circle got bigger and many of her friends started requesting different designs for their occasions.
Perfect shoes are hard to find, so the material for each designed shoes is surely way harder to find. That’s what May highlighted when asked about the whole process of designing shoes.
“I order a special white thread from abroad, in addition to the glue and different fabrics, and it is definitely costly, especially with the dollar rise nowadays. But I try to be consistent with my prices and what is unique about Bridal shoes is, you get to pick your own shoe type, design and color. Bridal shoes are mainly for occasions and weddings, but if you want a special design for casual shoes, I’ll be Glad to make it come true.”

As for the shoe making itself, May continued “Orders can take from 1 to 3 weeks or more, which depends on the design of the shoes and some customers, won’t find the shoe type they want designed, so I get it for them. And for the process itself, I may start from scratch, design the heel, apply fabric on, thread on beads and cut pieces to fit the shape and the curve of the shoes. I’m also planning on releasing a new collection, and getting it nicely displayed and photographed by Karim Ahmed, a talented photographer, the one behind all the shots of my shoes.”
Handmade will always be an elite and an appreciated work. For her shoes, Prices start from 350, depending on the shoe type and design.
