First trimester: What is normal and what you should worry about

Congrats! you are pregnant for the first time, everyone is thrilled, you too, but unfortunately you will not have time to enjoy such news, your hormones are a roller coaster, you have nausea most of the time, your energy levels are approaching zero, along with many other symptoms.
And with the several changes your body goes through, you start to worry; you are not sure what is normal and what is not.

What is normal?

  • Fatigue: For no specific reason you cannot get out of bed or do anything. Do not force it, your body is going through a lot and needs rest.
  • Nausea: Totally normal, actually it is one of the signs your pregnancy is on the right track, but If you do not feel it, you do not need to worry. It is also normal you are just one of the lucky ones so enjoy it.
  • Cravings: Also normal enjoy it.
  • Lower abdominal pressure: Normal pain probably due to bowel spasms or your uterus is growing which is totally natural, but to make sure you can check with your doctor.
  • Dizziness: Your body needs rest so do not hesitate to listen to it and make sure you are taking the right vitamins and eating well balanced meals.
  • Extreme Mood swings: Your hormones are rising fast, especially if it is your first pregnancy so this is totally normal, give it sometime till your body adjust.
  • Spotting: Light bleeding is also normal, scary yes, but normal. It may happen after intercourse it does not mean something serious, but if the bleeding gets heavy or you are worried for any reason call your doctor immediately.

When to worry?

If you have any of these symptoms call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately
  • Heavy bleeding 
  • Severe cramps
  • Reduced urination or pain during urination
  • Burning sensation
  • Fainting
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
Remember, you can always check with your doctor if you are worried for any reason or have any questions do not hesitate or be embarrassed, but also do  not worry too much, relax, your body knows what to do.
